Owen's First Dr. Visit

Owen went on his first outing today...to the doctor.

He now weighs 7 lbs 2 oz. Dr. Froman said "he's perfect"!! He's lost a little weight, but not too much. He also is a little jaundice, but according to Dr. F, that's normal for breastfed babies and should clear up on its own. We have a follow up visit in two weeks.

Bonding with his doctor

After the doctor, we ran a few errands and went to Sonic. Even though Owen and I stayed in the car for most of the morning, it was nice to get out of the house for a little while. Owen was great on his first outing. He spent most of his time sleeping, except when they were poking and prodding on him at the doctor.

Photo Session

Owen had his first photo session today with mom and dad. After his bath we put him in this outfit and decided it was so cute that he needed some pictures taken... Owen was a good sport about it, he slept through the whole thing! Here are a few of our favorites.

More Pictures...

I finally had a chance to sit down and go through all the pictures of Owen...thanks to Josh, who uploaded them all to the computer and organized them in folders. Here are few of my favorite pictures.

First Night Home...

Well...we all survived our first night home with Owen. We were discharged from the hospital around 5:30 yesterday and sent home to begin our new life with Owen.

Owen and I are attempting breastfeeding. Thanks to Lindsey, we finally had a successful feeding on Thursday night. It was short, but we both learned a few key techniques. After a long feeding on Friday morning around 5 am, I thought we were well on way to success. However, Owen decided to go on a hiatus yesterday and went around 12 hours without eating. I tried and tried and tried...but all Owen wanted to do was SLEEP! He finally decided to start eating again around 7 last night...thank goodness. So we spent our first night at home eating every 1.5 to 2 hours. Neither one of us got very much sleep...Dad, on the other hand, mastered the ability to sleep through Owen's crying. Ha! So, today we are trying to feed every 3 hours and hopefully everyone will get a little more sleep tonight!

Josh and I have been on cloud nine since Owen's arrival. I can't even begin to explain how excited and proud we are!! This has been the most wonderful and rewarding experience ever. I absolutely love seeing Josh as a "Daddy". He has been so loving and attentive to Owen...it just melts my heart. He's also been helping me with EVERYTHING...I have the best husband ever!! We are having so much fun getting to know Owen. He's been here less than 48 hours and we can't imagine life without him. It's amazing how much we love this little guy already!

In the short time since Owen's arrival, we have managed to take about 650 pictures. For those of you who know my mom...this is not shocking. Needless to say, the blog will be filled with many pictures of little Owen. Here are just a few...

Owen has Arrived!!!

Owen Peyton Summerford arrived at 3:54 p.m. weighing in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. (Bart and Christie won the family weight guess pool), 19 in long. Christie was awesome and spent just over an hour pushing. It has been crazy ever since with lots of visitors and spending time with the little one.

Here are a few pictures of our little man for now... more to come when things slow down!

And again...
His first hairdo!

Waitin' on Owen Peyton... 2:00

The doc came in for another check and Christie is dilated 8-9cm and 100% effaced. Her contractions are getting harder and closer together. Doc is coming back in about 40 min to start pushing.

Christie has been on the phone all day... apparently the contractions aren't that bad

Papa Joe came to visit between meetings today

Waitin' on Owen Peyton... 11:30

The doc came back and broke Christie's water at 10:00 and the contractions have gotten stronger. The nurse just did another check and she is at 5cm and has effaced a little more. We have had some more company...

...and Christie enjoyed a popsicle

Our wonderful nurses

Bart and Anna finally made it

Lindsey came to visit and brought Owen a great book to remember the day he was born

Waitin' on Owen Peyton... 9:30

We got to the hospital this morning around 5:30, and Christie was hooked up shortly thereafter and the pitocin was started at 7:00. The epidural was started a little before 8:00 by Kevin, who did an awesome job and deserved a shout out. Christie had a little more trouble with the I.V. which made her feel a little nauseated and lose all her color, she said the epidural was nothing compared to that! It is now 9:30 and Christie is at 4cm and 90% effaced. The doc is coming back at 10:30 to break her water and get things moving!

Belly update, 38 weeks!

Today was my 38 week appointment, and it just so happens, my final prenatal check-up! We discussed the possibility of an induction last week, and today it was decided for sure that I will be induced on Thursday! We are so excited... only three more days until we get to meet Owen! The rest of the appointment went well, I am about 80% effaced, but not dilated. Dr. B originally thought I was 1-2 cm dilated, but now that my cervix has moved into the correct position she realized that I'm only effacing. We were also put on the monitor again just to check Owen HR one last time, but only for a short time before the doctor said everything looked good. At the end of the appointment we were told to come back Thursday at 5:30 a.m. to get everything started. So it looks like Owen's birthday will be March 26th... we had said from the beginning that it would be March 27th, so we got pretty close!

Now, the final belly update! Thank goodness, I don't think my belly could stretch much more!

Last Date Night!

This past Friday night we decided that we needed to get in one last date night before Owen gets here and date nights may be harder to come by! I decided that we needed to eat downtown, mainly becausing I was craving a slice of the 10 pound chocolate cake from Common Grounds, and we wanted to try something new. We kind of get stuck in a rut as far as going out to eat, we have found a restaurant that we like for whatever food we are craving and typically stick with it... burger = Hugo's, Mexican = La Hacienda etc... So for tonight we wanted to eat somewhere we hadn't been before so we headed downtown and ended up at Theo's, we had heard great things, but never been. It was really nice Friday night so sat outside and enjoyed the weather. The food was excellent and I think we may have found a new restaurant to put into our rotation! After dinner we moved on to Common Grounds for dessert... a huge chunk of chocolate cake! We had a wonderful evening and I couldn't think of a better way to spend our last date night!

Ready to go
