September 29th....continued

We finally got to hold our baby girl for the first time around 4:15 today!!  It was a little challenging maneuvering all the wires, but we managed with the help of the nurse.

I also got to attempt breast feeding!  We weren't really successful, but we'll definitely keep trying!  After I got in a little snuggle time, it was Josh's turn.  I'm pretty sure Ava already has him wrapped around her little finger!

Holding Ava was definitely the highlight of our week! We were so excited to finally get our hands on baby girl!

During our visit, we also had a chance to discuss the next steps for Ava.  In order for Ava to be discharged, she needs to 1) be completely weaned off the oxygen (she's really close) and 2) be eating from a bottle or breast feeding for all feeds. (according to the nurse, this may take a few weeks.  Because of her age, it will take her a while to learn how to suck, swallow, and breath all at the same time).

We were discharge around 7:15, so we ran home to eat dinner with Owen and put him to bed before heading back to the hospital to feed Ava.  Owen was so excited to spend time with us at home.  He was attached to both of us and didn't stop talking the entire time!!  It was good for all of us to have a little normalcy in our lives.

Ava is on a 3 hour feeding so we'll be spending a lot of time at the hospital working on feeding!  Please pray for improved respiration and improved feeding so we can bring our baby girl home!
