Snow Day....

We had our one and only snow day on February 13th.  It only lasted a day, so we decided to stay home and play in the little bit of snow that we got!

Owen was so excited to see the snow when he woke up.  Apparently he doesn't remember the snow from last year because when he first looked outside, he said "I like snow, I've never seen it!"

Our "official" snow day included:  pjs, movies, food, playing in the snow, more movies, and more food!

Ava Kate had her own kind of fun....

Owen couldn't wait to go out and play in the snow!   So...we layered up, gathered our "snow equipment" (aka beach toys) and headed out to play.  Josh and I had to take turns, so one of us could stay inside with Ava Kate.  I took the first round....

We started gathering snow to build a snowman, but that quickly turned into making and throwing snow balls...

Owen thought was hilarious to throw the snow balls at daddy who was watching from the door.  He actually got him a few times when Josh opened the door to grab some snow for retaliation.

 Our mini snow man...

After we finished building the snowman, it was daddy's turn to come out and play.  Owen couldn't wait to have a snowball fight with Josh....so we made a lot of snow balls before while daddy was getting layered up! Owen definitely had an advantage!!

the snow ball fight...

Owen had so much fun and would have stayed out there all day!  We finally made him come in after about two hours...for some hot chocolate and a nap!

Getting Out....

This was the view from our front door around 4:00 this afternoon when it was all said and done....

After Owen's nap, we decided to bundle up and go out to play in the snow. Owen was soooo excited!! He got the sleds and started pulling them all around the house while Josh and I were getting ready. I guess he was trying to tell us to Hurry Up!

Ready to go!
Owen's reaction to ALL the snow....
Walking through the snow was definitely an adventure...especially for Owen. Poor little guy was having so much fun making his way through it all, that by the time he made it to the street, he was pooped!

So proud of himself!
He would take/attempt a step on his own and fall every time...but he was so determined. The only part he didn't like was the snow on his gloves. We'll definitely have to get some better gloves next year...I'm saying next year because this has to be the LAST snow!

Josh and Owen attempted sledding down a small hill in the neighborhood, but they didn't make it very far before sinking into the snow! They tried a few times together and then we tried to let Owen go by himself...but he wasn't really a fan! The snow kept hitting him in the face, so after two attempts he was done.

Owen's favorite part was watching the ducks walk across the frozen pond. We stood there long enough that the ducks spotted us and tried really hard to get up to where we were thinking we were going to feed them...we felt really bad because we didn't have any food. I guess we'll just have to get out again tomorrow and feed them!
You can't tell from this picture, but Owen really enjoyed being pulled on level ground rather than sledding down hill. Josh was running beside and he thought it was hilarious that we were racing.
Yes, those are Wal-Mart sacks on my feet! I was wearing my Ugg boots, but the snow was so deep that my boots would have been soaked...so I improvised!

Record Breaking...

They were calling for 2-4 inches... and this is what we woke up to!

February 9, 2011 @ 8:00 am
10:30 am
at noon we had 21.5 inches...and it's still coming down pretty hard

Needless to say....I think this winter storm was a little underestimated! Looks like we're home bound again for the 2nd week in a row....

Josh and Honey ventured out for a little while this morning, but Owen and I decided to stay in and watch from the window.... Owen loved watching Honey jump through the snow. He kept squealing at her and saying "fast, fast"!

Honey...
I think we'll all get out this afternoon (once it stops snowing) for some sledding and snowman building.
